Banvasi




Banavasi is one of the best tourist places in Uttar Kannada. Banavasi is also known as Konkanapura and it is an ancient temple town in Uttara Kannada District. Banavasi is the oldest town in the Karnataka state. It has grown up around the Madhukeshwara Temple built in the 9th century and dedicated to Lord Shiva. Banavasi is surrounded by forest area and villages, with the Varada River flowing around it on three sides. It is located 141 km from Bhatkal. Sirsi, is the nearest town about 23 km. Adikavi Pampa, the first poet of Kannada, wrote his epics in Banavasi. The town once was the capital of the Kadamba rulers. The every December cultural festival takes place in banvasi, which is called as Kadambothsava, there will huge gatherings, organized by the state government, and featuring folk dancers, drama, classical musicians, art exhibitions, while drawing together performers, artists, and writers from all of places nearby gather in banvasi for their presentation of their talent. Banavasi has long been a cultural centre, especially the Yakshagana art form. The architects around the temple are best. This is the main attractions to the tourist. Its really a best place to be visited by art lovers.
